The deadline to claim the incentive payment for apprenticeships with a start date between 01 April and 30 September 2021 is 30 November 2021, employers have been warned.

As part of the Government’s Plan for Jobs, businesses can apply for a payment of £3,000 to support their organisation’s costs.

The incentive payment comes in addition to the £1,000 grant an employer will also receive for taking on an apprentice who is either aged 16 to 18-years-old, or who is under 25 and has an education, health and care plan or has been in the care of their local authority.

How to apply for the apprentice incentive payment

Before submitting an application for each apprentice, you must add eligible apprentices to your apprentice service account. This can be done here.

How can the payment be spent?

The incentive payment can be spent on anything that supports your organisation’s costs. This may include uniform, training, professional qualifications, or your apprentice’s travel or salary.

When will I receive the payment?

The incentive payment will be paid in two equal instalments once the apprentice completes their first 90 and 365 days, respectively.

For apprentices hired after September

If you hire an apprentice with a start from 01 October 2021 to 31 January 2022, you will be able to apply for an incentive payment from 11 January 2022.
